826michigan Announces Storymakers Dinner At Zingerman’s Roadhouse Featuring Special Guest Dave Eggers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Ann Arbor, MI – April 5, 2010 826michigan is announcing that its spring fundraiser, The Storymakers Dinner, will be held at Zingerman’s Roadhouse on Thursday, May 6, 2010.

What could be better than a perfectly written story? 826michigan helps young people tell and write their stories everyday, and the volunteers and donors who contribute to this work make thousands of stories possible every year. This dinner event will celebrate great stories and the people who make them happen.

826 National founder and acclaimed novelist, memoirist, and screenplay writer Dave Eggers will serve as special guest speaker, sharing his experiences with 826 students and a few stories of his own.  His newest book, Zeitoun, follows the true story of a Syrian-American family living in post-Katrina New Orleans.  To celebrate his appearance, Chef Alex of Zingerman’s Roadhouse will serve a menu of Syrian food inspired by Creole traditions.

In addition, Huron High School teacher Quinn Strassel and his students will read essays produced during 826michigan’s residency in his classroom this year. His students are among some of the schools most disadvantaged, and under the direction of 826michigan volunteers, their writing and their confidence, has improved dramatically this year.  He says, “826michigan’s efforts literally change my life (and the lives of my students) every time you’re here.”

Zingerman’s Co-founder Paul Saginaw says, "Through writing 826 encourages our children to find and express the inspiration within themselves, and to take joy in sharing it with others. Zingerman's is proud to support this creative and innovative organization."

Tickets are $75, and the event begins at 6:30 p.m. The menu includes:
